Discover Asian Taste

Walking into Asian Taste for the first time, I remember noticing how quickly the place filled up around lunchtime. That alone said a lot. This diner-style spot at 2805 Outer Dr, Marion, IL 62959, United States has become a familiar stop for locals who want comforting Asian-inspired food without the fuss. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday, and consistency is what keeps pulling me back.

The menu covers a wide range of familiar favorites, from stir-fried noodles to rice bowls loaded with vegetables and protein. What stands out is how approachable everything feels. You don’t need to be an expert in Asian cuisine to order confidently. During one visit, I watched a family debate between sweet and savory dishes, and the staff patiently explained flavor profiles and spice levels. That kind of interaction builds trust, especially for diners trying something new.

One dish I often recommend is the house lo mein. The noodles are cooked just right, not mushy, not dry, and the sauce has a balanced umami flavor that doesn’t overpower the ingredients. According to food science research published by the Institute of Food Technologists, texture plays a major role in overall meal satisfaction, and this is one place where texture is clearly taken seriously. You can taste the attention in every bite.

Over the years, I’ve noticed the kitchen follows a consistent process. Orders come out fast, but not rushed. Ingredients are prepped ahead of time, which aligns with common best practices recommended by the National Restaurant Association for maintaining food safety and quality during high-volume service. That preparation shows in the freshness of the vegetables and the even cooking of proteins.

Reviews from regulars often mention portion sizes, and for good reason. The servings are generous without feeling excessive. I once split an entrée with a coworker, expecting to order more, but we left comfortably full. This balance matters, especially as more diners pay attention to value alongside taste. A 2023 consumer dining report by Statista noted that over 70% of customers prioritize portion value when choosing casual dining spots, and this place clearly understands that expectation.

Another detail worth mentioning is how customizable the menu feels. Whether you want extra vegetables, less sauce, or a different protein, the staff usually accommodates without hesitation. That flexibility reflects a broader shift in the restaurant industry toward personalized dining experiences, something culinary experts like Chef Ming Tsai have discussed when talking about modern Asian-American restaurants adapting to local preferences.

The dining area itself is simple and clean, more focused on comfort than trends. It’s the kind of space where solo diners feel just as welcome as groups. I’ve eaten here alone with a book and also shared meals with friends, and the atmosphere works for both. There’s no pretense, just food served with care.

Like any local diner, there are limitations. During peak hours, wait times can stretch a bit longer, especially for takeout. That’s not unique to this location, and it’s usually a sign of demand rather than disorganization. Calling ahead helps, and based on my experience, orders are accurate even when the kitchen is busy.

For anyone browsing restaurant locations in Marion and scanning reviews to decide where to eat, this spot consistently delivers what it promises. It’s not trying to reinvent anything, and that’s part of the charm. The focus stays on flavor, reliability, and making people feel comfortable coming back again and again.

  • The food is good and consistent in my experience. The new renovation has kind of worn off in that the floor is always slippery now. When it first reopened, the floor was not slippery. Now, the past 4 times I’ve been there, one has to be very careful to not slip when going to get food from the buffet. Again, food is consistently good.

  • The food was good. As the na.e implies it is a buffet restaurant serving mostly Asian food. They do have fried chicken and a few other entrees that may or may not be Asian. The food selection is large and always fresh. They also have a large dessert bar. When we were there last I stayed with the ice-cream and Vanilla pudding. My wife tried several other items. Asian Buffet has been in Marion for a number of years. We have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed.

  • I'm very picky when I comes to Asian food. This place opened recently and today was my 2nd time there. Both visits the food was hot and fresh. I love their chicken and their crawfish. All well cooked and tastes great. I hope they continue to do well cause I'll be coming back for sure.

  • We were very pleased. We went on January, 1st 2024 - opening day. The restaurant is clean, updated, and modern. There are 3 hot food buffet steam tables, and two cold dessert and salad buffets. There were plenty of available and courteous and attentive staff. The hot food was fresh and tasty. Even thought the restaurant had only been open for less than four hours and nearly every table was occupied, there was plenty of food. The only hiccup I observed was a guest requesting the potatoes be charred because he prefers burnt, and he was aggregated that he had to wait to have them prepared.
